The new Mason-Dixon Wine Trail revolves around two Maryland wineries and 12 Pennsylvania wineries. The area includes a variety of factory tours to enjoy.

The new Mason-Dixon Wine Trail is one of the few wine trails that includes wineries from two bordering states. The Mason-Dixon Wine Trail combines wineries from southern Pennsylvania and northern Maryland regions. Wineries range from the small, boutique wineries to larger wineries that would be delightful for event planning including weddings, anniversaries and business meetings.

The establishment of the new Mason-Dixon Wine Trail was announced on a rainy, overcast day in September 2011, at Naylor Wine Cellars. Despite the rain, the ambiance of the Naylor pavilion, a short distance from the winery and tasting room, provided a good setting.

Mason-Dixon Wine Trail Wineries

Currently 14 wineries are members of the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail. The 12 wineries in Pennsylvania are Adams County Winery, Allegro Vineyards, Cullari Vineyards & Winery, Four Springs Winery, Hauser Estate Winery, Hummingbird Ridge Winery, Moon Dancer Vineyard & Winery, Naylor Wine Cellars, Reid’s Orchard & Winery, Tamanend Winery, The Vineyard at Hershey, and West Hanover Winery. The two Maryland wineries are Fiore Winery and Boordy Vineyards.

The Mason-Dixon Wine Trail was established with enthusiastic cooperation with the York County Convention and Visitors Bureau. The trail replaces the original Mason-Dixon Wine Trail and the Uncork York Wine Trail.

Wine enthusiasts who plan to visit all the wineries on the wine trail will most likely like to take two or four days. Enjoy the differences between the settings, wines and where grapes are sourced or grown. The soil in this region is loamy with good drainage and with the right weather conditions different varieties of grapes do very well.

Mason-Dixon Wine Trail Events

Two annual events are already scheduled for the Wine Trail followers. In November 2011 the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail will begin featuring Wine Just Off the Vine on two November weekends. Wine Just Off the Vine will give ticket holders the opportunity to taste wines that have been recently pressed and Nouveau wines. Events will include winemaker pairings and presentations. More information is available on the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail website.

Wine lovers will want to watch for the Tour De Tanks event that occurs on several spring weekends.

Additional Area Attractions

While planning your visit, plan to stay a few days and include some area factory tours. Factory tours are available at Martin’s Potato Chips, Snyder’s of Hanover, and Perrydell Farm Dairy. Bluett Bros Violins may be perfect for music lovers who are interested in the intricacy of violins. A dog owner may want to visit Miss Lucy’s Dog Treats. Chocolate lovers and tourists will appreciate the nearby Hershey’s Chocolate World Visitor Center.

Delight in a visit to wineries on the new Mason-Dixon Trail and take time to tour a variety of the factory tours in the region.
